It's because English is a language of international communication nowadays. Do you know that feeling when you are freely speaking with someone from your field of interests but who is living from the other side of the globe? By knowing English you instantly get an access to recent scientific and technical achievements. Finally, you have good opportunities to get a well-paid job. Neither of Slavic languages will provide similar opportunities to you.

Speaking club is not always the commercial project. I knew a club which was self-organized by members, they simply gathered in caffee once a week or two. The disadvantage of this idea is that members are practically not united by similar interests, so they don't have what to speak about aside of studying of English. So the club declined as soon as members passed the initial rise of interest (you can always find some "meeting" topics to discuss with unfamiliar person, but as soon as you get more familiar you can see that you are not interested to discuss anything more).

all this speaking clubs are terrible boring.
discuss what? once more about "economics in Ukraine"? or "high educatioin in britain" (eeeeh...what else were necessarely for learning in school english?...)
Even its just forum-talks, its much better then speech to person, cause you have time to think and correct your reply...And maybe new,previously unknown words wil be remembered, similar -- for the grammatik.

I'm afraid that no one will make hints on mistakes in forum conversation. During the speech you're always able to quickly reply "grammar, not grammatik" - "oh, yes, thanks". Will someone regularly practice the same at forum? Not sure at all...

ah, yep...its my biggest problem: sometimes i mix german and english words)))Sorry.
No one - probably, but by yourself - why not.
Just used to switch brains from cyrillic simbols to latin and itll be anough for the beginning.
Also, i always feel confused when i talk with person that knows english not so good, cause when this person didnt understand my words, i started to think that maybe i said smthng wrong - maybe wrong word,wrong phrase etc...

Украинский язык я знаю лучше чем российский, специально учил. Просто для региона удобнее. И да, расея - дикари. Хотя бы из-за повального шовинистического неприятия окружающего мира. ИМХО)
Но это уже совершенно иной вопрос, со специальной темой )
