Christian hardcore bands' intentions might be to promote the monotheistic system of beliefs and practices based on the Old Testament and the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, who is believed to be the awaited Messiah. We may also say that Christian hardcore bands just want to show the listener how their lives have been changed by Jesus Christ, not to change anybody's beliefs or to convert the listener to Christianity but just to show how they feel about their beliefs. We can assume that these bands do it just for the enjoyment of writing about something they care about.
There are many Christian hardcore bands that choose not to announce in an open and straightforward manner that they are Christians. This may be because they feel they will lose popularity among non-Christian believers. Some Christian hardcore bands are not obvious to identify because their lyrics might only express their views on everyday social and personal issues.
Over the past few years, Christian hardcore has generally experienced a wider acceptance in the hardcore and metalcore scene on a global scale. Bands were once criticised for expressing openly christian or spiritual beliefs but more recently, increasing numbers of bands have a Christian message in their music.
Some bands such as: Agraceful, Attack Attack!, As Cities Burn, Before Their Eyes, Norma Jean, As I Lay Dying, Blessthefall, The Devil Wears Prada, Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, The Chariot, With Blood Comes Cleansing, August Burns Red, Haste the Day, Impending Doom, The Last Redeemed, My Children My Bride, Oh, Sleeper, Sleeping Giant, Underoath promote a more strongly open Christian scene and background. Some of these bands are more open than others about their beliefs and may not actually identify themselves as "Christian bands". It's possible to tell, however, by the record label that signed the band, the lyrics themselves and the "thanks" section in their album booklet for example. Commonly, the topic tends to be addressed directly in interviews and by fans on message boards.
