The spire has fallen. The roof has collapsed.
Flames are, at present, coming out of what used to be the three world-famous stained glass rose windows.
“Every part of the building” is on fire.
The building had closed to the public for the evening and there were no tourists within when the fire started.
It is suspected that the blaze is related to recent renovation work,
visible in the photos and video as scaffolding around the exterior.
It has been in ruins before, and it will be rebuilt again.
But it will take decades, and it does not make this hurt any less.
